REDDITCH saw their mini-revival stall after losing by 101 runs to Worcestershire League Division One leaders Pershore on Saturday.

The Kingfishers had won their previous two games but a strong batting display by the table-topper’s middle order proved the difference.

The visitors had won the toss and opted to bat first and recorded 229 all out inside 50 overs.

Waqas Ali maintained his fine start to the season with the ball when he had opening batsman Liam Riding caught by Russell Southwick.

Ali ended with figures of 5-60.

But Pershore recovered from being 8-1 and started to steadily make runs.

Chris Ayliffe (44), Matthew Brace (35) and William Green (56) scored the runs which guided Pershore to a defendable total.

Redditch made a solid start in reply but once Thomas Phelan was trapped lbw by Leon Wiffen for seven runs, wickets fell regularly.

Southwick had given them hope with 47 runs off 55 balls but when he was caught by Ayliffe off Brace’s delivery, Redditch were dismissed for 128 in the 49th over.

Redditch go to Worcester Nomads on Saturday (1pm start).

In Division Two, Feckenham earned a losing draw against Lye.

The Black Country side were put into bat and made 371-5, with the Millers replying with 276-9.
