BROMSGROVE and Redditch AC's men's team were edged out by Worcester by a point in the latest round of the Midlands Veterans Track and Field League at the Dell Stadium.

Mike Neylon was second in the men's over-50s 200 metres in 27.2 metres, while Jason Cashmore was also runners-up in the men’s over-40s 200m and Martin Aspley-Davis won the men’s over-35s 200m.

Team manager Calvin Scoltock was victorious in the men’s over-40s 800m and also won the men’s over-35s two kilometre walk.

James Adie, competing for the first time in the league, was first in the the men’s over-35s 3000m with a new record of nine minutes and 43.5 seconds.

In the men's over-60s 300m, Clive Rose came first and then was second in the triple jump with a club record leap of 6.46m.

There was a second place for Stephen Brooks in the men’s over-40s high jump with a best jump of 1.45m and Neylon won the men’s over-50s long jump setting with a club record of 4.37m.

The highlight of the men’s competition was the last event of the evening, the 4 x 400m relay.

Worcester’s new member Richard Houchin took the baton for them with a clear lead over B&R in second place.

Aspley-Davis ran a stunning final leg for B&R to edge ahead of Houchin on the finish line to take the win.

Bromsgrove and Redditch maintained their top spot in the league.

In the women’s competition, again Worcester were first with B&R second.

New club member Peggy Blunn competed for B&R in the women’s over 70 200m and finished second behind Worcester’s Iris holder.

Deborah Ricci was also second in the women’s over-40s 200m behind Stratford’s Paula Williams.

Joanne Frost returned from an injury won the women’s over-35s 200m in a time of 27.3s with Cat Goulder-Davis from Worcester in second.

Becky Selvey was runner-up in the over 40 800m behind Midland Masters Audrey Wilson.

New comer to the veteran’s league, Katy Anderson, easily won the women’s over-35 3,000m for B&R in a time of 11:16.9 with her nearest rival half a lap behind.

Rita Brownlie, Polly Gerner and Julie Wakelam was runner-up in the over-60s javelin, over-50s long jump and over-40s discuss respectively, while Bromsgrove and Redditch won the 4x400m relay.

The next round is in Leamington on June 17.
