ASTWOOD Bank skipper Steve Adshead hailed his bowling attack after they inspired an eight-wicket win over Water Orton in Birmingham League Division Three.
The Sambourne Lane side notched up a second consecutive win to leave them one of two teams with maximum points after the first two games of the season.
It was Bank’s bowling line-up of Dan Taylor (3-22), Thomas Harris (2-29), Matthew McDonald (2-31), Dan Thomas (1-22), Jon Summers (1-15) and Andrzej Jagielski (1-17) that shared the wickets as Water Orton were dismissed for 141.
Astwood made 144-2 in 32 overs, with Adshead (56) and Alex Robinson (50) guiding them to victory.
The captain said: “We won the toss and the guys bowled very well to leave us in a good position to win the game.
“They’ve done what they have always done and are very consistent. It means if we can get anywhere near a par score with the bat we’ve always got a good chance of winning the game.”
Astwood look to continue their good form when they take on Fordhouses at home on Saturday (noon start).
Fordhouses opened the season with a high-scoring tied game with Kings Heath and then suffered an eight-wicket loss to C&R Hawks.
Adshead added: “Fordhouses have some very good opening bowlers, so we’ll have to make sure we cope with them if we are to get a good result.”
Summers is set to miss the clash because of work commitments, so a member of the seconds will be called up.
