LEE Knight feels Alvechurch can build on the strong foundations of their robust's defence.

The Lye Meadow outfit boast one of the toughest back lines in the Midlands Premier with 58 conceded in just 39 games.

Alvechurch's biggest problem is scoring goals, with just 51 bagged for the season, and just four notched up in the last eight games in all competitions.

After Saturday's 0-0 draw against Quorn on Saturday, Knight said: "Looking at the positives we defended very well.

"We do not concede very many goals at all and if I can keep the five or six players who are doing so well at the back for next season I will be very happy.

"We started with three strikers on the pitch and actually ended with four but at the moment it is not happening for us up front."

The manager though is hoping to hand strike Joel Ambalu an extended run in the side after he showed promise in recent games and training.

The former West Bromwich Albion rookie has taken some time to acclimatise to the rigours of non-league football.

Kinght said: "Joel is getting a run in the side because we can see him really coming on, he's got the potential and is really coming on."

Meanwhile, Alvechurch complete the league campaign with three games this week.

They were set to play Long Easton United on Tuesday night, entertain Heath Hayes on Thursday (both 7.45pm ko) and go to AFC Wulfrunians on Saturday.

With Sporting Khalsa taking on Tividale on Thursday, Church will discover who they will play in the JW Hunt semi-final.
