DESPITE not being at their best, Alcester Nomads recorded a maximum-points win over Swans to remain top of the Studley Skittles League.

Nomads’ first leg score of 55 pins looked inadequate, but Swan responded disastrously making just 43.

They never recovered from this setback and eventually produced their lowest team total of the season.

Alcester’s top scorers were Alan Spreckley (39), Margaret Povey (38) and Geoff Loat (36), while Swan’s best came from Bob Haycock (33) and 32 apiece from Andy Reynolds and Helen Racki.

Despite second-placed Maudslay losing the first leg to Jumbo Jet Set, they quickly regained the initiative.

Jumbos produced their season’s worst performance and Maudslay, at their ruthless best, took advantage to record a very big win.

For the winners, Dick Walters made 38 and Geoff Maynard and Dave Ford 37 each. Only John Farley, with 32, made a respectable score for Jumbos.
