REDDITCH Seconds produced their best display of the season as they saw off Clee Hill 14-5.

The Kingfishers started brightly and Colin Bryant sent them on their way when he crashed over close to the posts and managed to get the ball down for the try.

James Mills duly converted to push Redditch into a 7-0 lead early on.

Any thoughts that this was going to be an easy day were soon dispelled when the Redditch pack was driven back at a rate of knots. The hosts were struggling to take their own ball in the scrum, but the lineout was working well.

There were little battles going on all over the park and one of the best was at stand-off, where Jamie Gordon regularly broke the line for Redditch.

With Mark Green outside him often getting good ball with the half break, Redditch looked likely to score. However, Clee were equal to the task and managed to stifle every attack.

Redditch were unlucky to be penalised for holding on when the last man was isolated just metres from the line.

From the penalty Clee were able to clear their lines and gradually work their way up the touchline well into Redditch’s half before sweeping over the line to score a try and make it 7-5.

As the visitors attempted a penalty shortly after half time Bryant was again in the action, almost on the identical spot to where we had scored his try.

This time though he knocked on near his try line to give the mighty Clee pack an attacking scrum under the posts. Redditch battled away under severe pressure and kept their line intact with some super tackles.

Redditch were struggling to find possession from set pieces and Clee Hill often chose to kick rather than run, keeping Jason Furness and his wingers busy at the back.

Eventually, Redditch were able to force their way up towards the Clee line with strong runs from Barney Barnett.

Several times they attacked the line but the heroic Clee boys defended bravely until a relieving penalty allowed them to clear the lines.

But they made the decisive breakthrough when Jamie Gordon took advantage of the quick ball to scamper through the defence and score, while Mills kicked the conversion.
