LAURA Dangerfield is hoping to put her injury frustration behind her and force her way back into the Great Britain reckoning.

The 24-year-old has had to be patient after being disrupted by shoulder and elbow injuries over the last two years.

She has been slowly regaining her form and fitness as she prepares to take on the country’s best in the GB circuit of tournaments.

Dangerfield, who was set to find out this week if she had fully recovered from her elbow problem, has demonstrated good form in the warm-up tournaments ahead of the biggest tournaments this year.

She won double gold at the Warwick University Senior Open Championships last weekend.

The Redditch resident was far too strong for all of her opponents in the under-70s kg weight category as a combination of lethal ground work and strong throws swept her to gold. Dangerfield then stepped up to open weight category and took on a host of black belts.

After a series of comfortable wins, she had to defeat an opponent who weighed 20kgs heavier using a combination of clever tactics and strong defence.

Again she faced a heavier and powerful rival but she wrapped up a second gold with a devastating backwards throw just seconds before the end, leaving her opponent flat on her back and earning maximum points for herself.

She said: “I have had to be careful as I get back to fitness and the Warwickshire Open was a very good way of preparing for the GB circuit.

“My big aim for 2015 is to start making an impact at these tournaments. Sometimes you can rush back but I have taken my time.

“I don’t expect to be selected for Team GB but to ease my way back in and just do me best.

“It has been a frustrating few years, I won a medal at the British Championships and was selected for the national squad but since then injuries have made it difficult.”

Dangerfield, who won gold at the prestigious Eindhoven Open in November, has another tournament in Leicester this weekend but the first of the major events starts on March 7 with the English Open.
