WOODRUSH powered into the semi-finals of the RFU Midlands Knockout Cup with a 43-5 win over Burntwood on Saturday.

James Gordon handed the hosts a winning start when he crashed over for a try.

Josh Tomlinson slotted from a penalty misdemeanour and three minutes after that Gordon crossed for his brace.

It was one way traffic and when Anton Taylor crossed in the 24th minute it looked like a cricket score might be on the cards.

Eduardo Lerna crossed on the cusp of half-time to leave the home team 29 unanswered points to the good.

Woodrush took their foot off the gas and Burntwood pushed but Kris Duce stunned them when he touched down.

Burntwood collected a compensation score in the last minute of the game but in the end the home team ran out worthy winners and now face Melton Mowbray in the semi-finals, again at Icknield Street in February.

Director of tugby Keith Bagby said: "We brought in some talented young guys for this game against a good side and they have done themselves and the club proud."
