Cirencester Town 3, Redditch United 2

Redditch United ended a mammoth week of three away days with a disappointing display at Cirencester Town, writes Lewis Cox.

Skipper Ashley Sammons and Luke Shearer cancelled out an early opener from the hosts but two second half strikes turned it around for the Gloucestershire outfit.

On an afternoon when Liam McDonald's men never really got going, their mid-table hosts took the initiative and twice went close early from distance early on through Nat Jarvis and Josh Parsons, keeper Sam Hornby keeping them both out.

Cirencester opened the scoring midway through the half when Jarvis, profiting from some slack defending from the visitors as they failed to clear their lines, finished from close-range.

Reds levelled on the half-hour when Simeon Maye beat two men before being pulled down by home stopper Glyn Garner and skipper Sammons scored from the spot.

Six minutes before the break an unlikely first-half turnaround was complete as a Sammons corner was sliced clear at the near post only for a combination of Shearer and Jimmy Mutton to head home; the goal was given to the forward who registered for the first time since his recent move from Alvechurch.

Cirencester were unfortunate to be behind and turned their dominance into parity on the hour mark. Hornby denied Parsons from range, but from the resulting corner Ellis Lunton saw his header cleared off the line by Joel Caines only for Jarvis to be on hand to tuck in the rebound.

McDonald had introduced new signing and match winner at Poole last week Zac Sirrell, who went closest to retaking the lead for the visitors when his fine effort from distance was clawed away by Garner.

But with eight minutes remaining, Lunton again stole a march on the Reds backline from a corner and steered his header beyond Hornby for a deserved winner.
