SOME of the biggest names in global cricket are set to grace the pitch at Redditch Entaco Cricket Club this summer.

The club will face the famous Lashings World XI at their Bromsgrove Road home on Friday, August 14, in a Twenty20 exhibition match.

The game, which was organised by club sponsors APC Couriers and Ironmongery Direct, is set to feature some of the world’s best players of the last decade.

It could see legends such as South African Hershelle Gibbs, Pakistan trio Inzaman Ul-Haq, Saqlain Mushtaq and Mohammed Yousaf, West Indians Courtney Walsh, Gordon Greenidge and Darren Sammy, and former England stars Matthew Hoggard, Simon Jones and Graeme Swann taking on the Kingfishers.

Lashings were established in 1984 and were attracting the likes of West Indies’ stalwart Richie Richardson and the Lashings reputation grew from there.

Now in their 31st season, Lashing touring the country playing at different grounds and are unbeaten in two years.

The club have organised a hospitality marquee available with tables of ten guests starting at £500, but spectators are also welcome to come down the match.

General ticket prices will start at £5 for adults and £2 for Under-16s, family tickets are £10.

Chairman Darren Field said: “We’re all very excited, it’s going to be a memorable occasion for the club.

“We’re hoping to get Inzman Ul-Haq down at the club because that will definitely attract a big crowd.

“But there’s plenty of excitement, Lashings are ramping it up on Twitter already.

“We’re going to have a bar and a marquee and we’ve already had 12 tables booked in.”

A spokesman for Lashings said: “We’re delighted to be coming to Redditch for the very first time.

“We were unbeaten last season and intend to remain so this year, so we will bring a strong squad and we would advise the Redditch players to get into the nets early for some additional practice, because they will need it.”
