DELIGHTED Redditch United boss Liam McDonald has said he has not considered his side’s promotion prospects after they stunned leaders Poole on Saturday.

The Reds are fourth in the Southern League Premier after knocking the Dorset outfit off the top spot.

Youngster Zac Sirrell bagged his first goal for the club in memorable fashion and, despite Calvin Dinsley’s sending off for two yellow cards, they held on for a 1-0 win to take all three points.

United are unbeaten in six games and have taken 16 points from a possible 18 to put them contention for either the title or the end of season play-off spots.

“We are taking the season week-by-week, so we’re not looking that far ahead,” said an upbeat McDonald.

“Can we make the play-offs? It’s too early to say but the way we’re playing at the moment we’re in with a chance. Let’s see if we can keep it up.”

Dinsley is set to be suspended for the home game against Hitchin on Saturday, January 31 after his dismissal on the south coast.

McDonald added: “I knew we would go there and win the game and it’s a testament to the player’s collective spirit.

“We may have lost Jermaine Hylton to Swindon, but the players knew we were more than a one man team.

“I have never seen a team work so hard to close down the opposition and I thought Jim Mutton and Callum Flanagan were immense. We’re giving young guys like Zac Sirrell a chance and he put his chance in the top corner.

“It was our best performance of the season so far and I am very pleased for the lads.”

Redditch were  missing several players in Tuesday night's 3-2 defeat in Truro.

United then face mid-table opposition on their travels, going to Cirencester on Saturday (3pm ko) before a trip to Cambridge City next Wednesday (7.45pm ko).
