Silhillian Saxons 22, Alcester 7

ALCESTER prepared for next weekend’s crucial league game against Wellesbourne with an away trip to Solihull to play the Saxons, the second XV of the Midlands Division One West South outfit, Silhillians.

The injury-hit Coughton Court outfit conceded two early tries before replying with a converted effort of their own, scored by Ed Johnson and kicked by Sam Smith.

But Silhillians added a third before half-time and in a close second half, bagged a fourth to seal the result.

Second-placed Alcester’s important league game against third-in-the-table Wellesbourne kicks off at King’s Coughton at 2.15pm on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the seconds suffered a third successive derby defeat at the hands of Evesham, going down 12-17.

Evesham had opened the scoring with a try but the hosts recovered and hit back.

Ed Goddard did well to chase down clearance and touch down to hand Alcester the lead. Daryl Gibbons added the extras.

Evesham then responded with a converted effort to edge ahead.

Try scorer Goddard was nominated man of the match for an all-round energetic display, edging out Jake Grainger and Joe Locke.
