Redditch Utd 3, Dorchester Tn 0

TWO goals from star turn Jermaine Hylton helped the Reds go level on points with league leaders Poole Town.

The striker, on the radar of a number of league clubs with Southampton and MK Dons rumoured to be at the Valley last night, dazzled the opposition and could easily have doubled his tally.

But it was far from a one-man show with skipper Ashley Sammons often providing the ammunition for United’s leading scorer while midfielder George Carline a defender Calum Flanagan were also impressive.

The writing was on the wall when Hylton hit the upright midway through the first half and he duly opened the scoring on 33 minutes – a more direct approach that saw keeper Sam Hornby’s kick headed on by Carline for Hylton to stab the ball beyond Alan Walker-Harris in the visitors’ goal.

Carline should have added to the scoreline ten minutes later but dragged his effort across goal while Dorchester’s best chance fell to Jack Odam early on but, after beating the offside trap, shot tamely at Hornby.

Carline got his reward two minutes into the second half with a neat finish from the edge of the area and from then on it was one-way traffic against the Dorset side who shipped four second half goals at the weekend to lose 4-3 to Paulton Rovers.

Dior Angus could only direct an effort at Walker-Harris when unmarked on 54 minutes and he had another effort smothered by the keeper five minutes later with Hylton and Sammons also peppering the target.

Hornby did well to keep out a Robbie Matthews header midway through the half but that was a rare chance for Dorchester who fell further behind on 77 minutes when Hylton pounced on some sloppy defending to slot in his second of the game.

Nathan Walker’s mis-timed tackle on Hylton in injury time looked a certain penalty but referee Joe Clark thought otherwise. A shame really as a fourth goal would have lifted the Reds above Poole to the top of the table.
