ALVECHURCH manager Lee Adams felt Saturday’s 4-1 defeat to Quorn in the Midlands Premier did not reflect the game.

The Church had suffered their biggest defeat of the season at the Farley Way Stadium.

The Lye Meadow side were missing suspended duo Joe Adams and Jack Creswell, while coach Keith Rostill started in goal because of an injury to Ash Malhotra.

But it was the home side who took a 2-0 lead by half-time, when Joe Dean Brennen and Karl Whymark had hit the back of the net.

Jesse Race had also cleared an effort off the line.

Luke Shearer and Aaron Roberts had chances to pull a goal back and Quorn made it 3-0 when Brennen bagged his second of the game.

Liam Read scored a fourth for the hosts before Gareth Evans pulled back a consolation effort.

Adams said: “It was a game of fine margins.

“Quorn took their chances and two of their goals were of the highest quality.

“We didn’t take our chances and were punished for it.

“I don’t think we played badly, it was just in the final third we struggled.”

Alvechurch bounced back with a 4-1 win over Boldmere, with goals for Joe Adams, Michael McGrath, Luke Shearer and Lewis Cosgrave.

They now have two home games against mid-table rivals AFC Wulfrunians on Saturday (3pm ko) and Brocton next Tuesday (7.45pm ko).

Adams has said he is looking into the loan market to strengthen his side’s forward options.

He said: “I don’t normally look at loans but we need to add some quality in the final third of the pitch.

“We’ve got a few irons in the fire and we’ll see what happens.”

Meanwhile, the club have put up a plaque in honour of stalwart fan Garry Whitby and father Stan.

The club paid tribute to Whitby, who passed away in 2013. It was then discovered his dad, Stan, had played for the club.

The family have also donated £1,000 to Alvechurch to mark the first anniversary of his passing.
