A DOMINANT spell just after half time proved crucial as Woodrush bagged a 36-22 win over Ledbury.

A moment of magic on eight minutes saw a huge pass from Ed Gardiner to Steve Smart result in the full back beating two men to claim the first try for Woodrush.

Ledbury roared back down the slope and with the low sun at their backs to earn the favour of the referee as they drove a Woodrush scrum back to their own line. A penalty try was awarded and Ledbury nudged in front.

The game took on an end-to-end feel and John Board crossed for a good score wide on the left from several forward drives.

However, with just five minutes to the break, an overly adventurous passage from Woodrush ended in the ball being hacked through their lines and finished under the posts to give a robust away team a 17-10 advantage at half time.

To their credit Woodrush stormed out of the blocks in the second half, playing some sublime rugby. On 45 minutes, Matt Playford drove over to draw the teams level.

The game transformed as wave after wave of green and white shirts battered the failing Ledbury defences.

A superb line break by Anderson then resulted in Titch Thomas going over for the next score and this proved to be the appetiser for the try of the game.

A driven maul from the Woodrush line out made twenty metres, Anderson broke from the rear, off loading again to Thomas who cut a line for the corner. Gardiner then took the ball and finished under the posts.

More pressure from the home forwards resulted in ruck ball wide on the right. The home defence was scrambling but running out of resources as Smart ghosted into the first receiver position and put on the afterburners to slide in under the posts once more to ensure a bonus point victory.

Ledbury claimed compensation with a try from scrummage pressure in the dying minutes.

They will be in cup action against Long Buckby this week.
