Rugby Town 3, Redditch United 2

Two goals from former Redditch triallist David Kolodynski ensured it was Rugby who booked their place in the third round of the Red Insure League Cup.

The striker bagged his first before half-time before wrapping up the win with a clever lob over Reds keeper Bradley Catlow five minutes from time.

The visitors had started well and Jamie Spencer had gone close inside the opening 15 seconds following tenacious work out wide by Jermaine Hylton.

And they took the lead on 15 minutes, Spencer stabbing home from close range from Leavi Oshungbure’s cross.

But it was all square within five minutes when Kolodynski levelled after a Lewis McBride shot had been blocked.

With both sides passing the ball around with relish, it was inevitable more goals would follow and it was the home side who nosed ahead before half-time, Justin Marsden scoring from the edge of the area to round-off a flowing Rugby move.

George Carline should have levelled late in the half but after miscuing his first effort, he proceeded to lift his second shot over the bar from eight yards.

The Reds looked the sharper after the break and drew level on 64 minutes when the ball broke for Hylton who powered his effort home from 20-yards.

And from then on it only seemed a matter of time before the visitors would grab the winner with Ashley Sammons hitting the upright, Spencer firing just wide and substitute Dior Angus directing an effort straight at keeper Richard Morris from in front of goal.

In the end, those misses proved costly as, with just five minutes to go, Kolodynski picked the ball up 25 yards from goal and calmly lobbed the keeper to guide Rugby into the next round.
