Redditch United 2, St Neots Town 0

RAMPANT Redditch United completed a double over second placed St Neots and climbed into fourth spot themselves following a fabulous display of attacking football, writes Nick Pullen.

In truth, Reds should have run out winners by a much wider margin as they repeatedly ripped the St Neots defence apart.

Reds raced into a 10th minute lead when man of the match Jermaine Hylton saw his shot rebound back out off a defender for Simeon Maye to slot home.

Reds could have rattled home further goals before half time, Hylton racing clear with only St Neots goalie Bastock to beat, but fired into the keeper's chest and the ball went spinning to safety before Dior Angus could capitalise.

The second half saw Reds create a succession of chances.

Dangerman Hylton got behind the St Neots defence and rounded Bastock, but could only fire into the side-netting.

Then on 50 minutes Jordan Jones delivered a wicked cross but George Carline couldn't connect in front of goal.

St Neots surprisingly only created one clear chance when Reds had cause to fear the worst when top marksman Drew Roberts rifled a point-blank chance straight at goalkeeper Sam Hornby when it looked easier to score.

Reds continued to rack-up the chances.

They appeared to have claims for a penalty when Ashley Sammons was pulled back when going through on goal after 63 minutes.

Then Hylton and Carline had a misunderstanding and squandered a glorious chance to score after Hylton had raced past a struggling St Neots defence.

Then Sammons wasted another opportunity when firing straight at Bastock.

Reds had to wait until the 85th minute before wrapping the game up, Carline's shot deflecting kindly for that man Hylton to hit home from close range.
