REDDITCH Community Amateur Boxing Club (RCABC) is looking to capitalise on the newfound popularity of women’s fighting by putting together an all-female squad.

With the sport on a high following Nicola Adams’ gold medal success at the London Olympics, the club are looking for girls who can pack a punch.

Women aged between 11 and 40 are wanted by RCABC.

They have fully-qualified Amateur Boxing Association coaches ready to train Redditch’s best and brightest to the high standards expected by the Amateur Boxing Association England.

With the number of categories in the sport increasing to six in time for the 2016 Rio games, the club is hoping to unleash the full potential of local residents.

The club is running three squad sessions a week but new members can ease themselves in.

Sarah Lee, who is a fully-qualified coach for the Amateur Boxing Association, is hoping learning to box will not only unearth future talent but also provide an outlet for young women’s energy.

She said: “Women’s boxing is definitely on the rise and we want to find gifted boxers.

“We will assess the ladies and they could be fighting at local, regional and at national levels.

“We’re part of the Amateur Boxing Association so they could, if they are good enough, go all the way to the Olympics.

“But it’s more than that. Boxing is good exercise and also provides a way for girls focus their energy.

“You see the sport providing a purpose to boys who have nothing else to do and we want to do the same for girls.”

Anyone interested in taking part, can visit the club in Matchborough Centre any time after 6pm or contact Sarah Lee on 07541 133844.
