ALVECHURCH showed signs of progress as they earned a well-deserved point with a 0-0 draw at high-flying Long Eaton in the Midlands Football League Premier.

Church stopped Eaton’s six-game winning streak as they kept their first clean sheet in five games.

However, manager Lee Adams felt his side could have earned all three points.

He said: “It was a good point but I had a sneaky feeling we could cause a surprise.

“They are a big, strong, quick side who are very direct and we had had them watched several times so we knew what to expect.

“I felt that in the last 20 minutes we looked the only side who were going to win the game.

“We created lots of opportunities but lacked the killer pass in the final third of the pitch.

“I thought we were solid considering we had a number of younger players in the side and we did allow Long Eaton a good chance late on.”

Church have a free weekend because they are not involved in the FA Vase. Their next game is a Birmingham Senior Cup clash at home to Causeway United next Tuesday (7.45pm kick-off).

“It’s a cup competition so we’d like to progress in it. We’re going in the right direction at the moment,” added the Alvechurch manager.

Meanwhile, the reserves saw off St Pauls 7-3, with goals for Larone Sinclair bagging a brace. Rees James and Shane O’Connell also hit the back of the net twice, while Keiran Smith scored the other.
