REDDITCH-based Bee Design enjoyed a fine weekend on the Anglesey circuit in the latest round of the NGRRC Minitwins Championship.

Rider Paul Wardell bagged two podium places to leave him in second place, behind championship leader Simon Low.

Wardell opened the meeting in style with a hard-fought second place in the first race, beating the current championship leader into fourth.

He said: “I haven’t been to this circuit before so it was a steep learning curve to be competitive but we’re determined to push all the way to the end of the season.”

The second race was made even more challenging when a heavy shower of rain meant tyre choice would be of critical importance.

Wardell led the way during the opening laps, which turned into a three-way battle all the way to the finish line where he claimed third place and his second podium appearance of the weekend.

He added: “Most of the frontrunners took a gamble on dry weather tyres as it looked like the track was drying and then it was just a case of who would be bravest.

“None of us can afford a do not finish at this stage of the championship.”

Bee design director Paul Crees said: “This is a good result for us.

“We’ve taken valuable points from the championship leader and made our second place overall more secure.

“With just two meetings left, every point counts.”

Bee’s next races will be at the Pembrey circuit in South Wales on September 16 and 17 and Wardell will be hoping to close the gap on Low.

The championship will then conclude on October with the road races at Thruxton.
