ALVECHURCH manager Ross Thorpe was pleased with his side’s final pre-season workout ahead of the 2014-15 campaign.

Church were edged out 1-0 by Evo-Stik South side Sutton Coldfield thanks to Ashley Robinson’s goal on Saturday.

But the Worcestershire side had their chances, with Connor Deards seeing a late penalty saved.

It was useful exercise for the Lye Meadow side, who commence the season at Heath Hayes on Saturday (3pm ko) before going to Boldmere on Tuesday (7.45pm ko) in the Midlands Football League Premier.

“It was a good display, we made a game of it against Sutton, who are a very good side,” said Thorpe.

“I have been pleased with our preparations in pre-season and the players have all worked hard in training.”

Alvechurch have suffered a setback after striker Charisma Agbonlahor joined Boldmere St Michaels and Mark Bandurak AFC Wulfrunians. Agbonlahor had only joined Alvechurch from Studley in the summer, but wanted to play at a club closer to his north Birmingham home.

“I have no problem with Charisma and Mark and I wish them the best of luck,” said the manager.
