STAND-In skipper Luke Davis is hoping South African Francois Mostert can continue his prolific form after scoring a century against Evesham on Saturday.

Mostert struck 103 not out off 142 balls as the Kingfishers recorded a winning draw in Worcestershire Division One.

Davis said: "Francois joined us as a batsmen but he's been doing better with the ball up until now.

"But he played well for his century and I am hoping this is the start of lots more runs for him.

"We batted and bowled well, it's a shame the rain came down when it did as we would have won the game."

Redditch had won the toss and elected to bat first at their derby rivals.

After losing Jack Roberson for a duck, bowled by Hassan Akbar, Mostert and Tom Field forged a 95 run second wicket partnership.

Russell Southwick (19), Yassar Altaf (24) and Stefan Jagielski (36no) guided the visitors to 259-4.

They then had their opponents struggling but the game was cut short by rain and Evesham had limped to 176-7 in 44 overs to deny Redditch maximum victory.

Sajad Khan (57) was Evesham's most effective player none of his playing partners could stick around to forge a fight back. Waqas Ali (2-30) and Tom Field (2-36) were in good form for Redditch.

Davis looks set to be captain until the end of the season after Perry Derrick suffered a severely broken thumb in Redditch's mid-week cup loss to Barnt Green last Thursday.

He said: "Losing Perry is a blow, we'll miss his bowling but he will still be involved and will have the final say on the team."

Youngster Harvey Chawner deputised for Derrick on Saturday but Tom Phelan is set to be available for Saturday's home clash against Hagley (1pm start).

Davis added: "Hagley have been a bogey side for us in the past but we have a very young team and I don't think they worry about that sort of thing."
