ALVECHURCH face the biggest two games of their season in league and cup during the next seven days.

Ross Thorpe's in-form side tackle promotion-chasing Boldmere St Michaels away on Saturday (3pm ko) in the Midland Alliance.

The manager will he aiming to impress against the club where he started his coaching career.

The Churchmen then entertain Midland Combination Premier outfit Littleton on Tuesday night in the semi-finals of the Worcestershire Senior Urn (7.45pm ko).

"We've got two massive games," said Thorpe.

"Boldmere was the club I started at as a coach and they were also the first team we played when I took over here.

"I always said by the next time we play them the squad would be improve ten-fold.

"But our match in the Urn is our biggest of the season. We're the holders so we want to defend the title and it would be great to have a big crowd to cheer us on."

Alvechurch go into the match on the back of an impressive 6-2 victory over Heather St John's.

The Lye Meadow outfit had raced into a 5-0 half-time lead before shell-shocked Heather rallied partially after the break.

Jamie Spencer continued his impressive return to action with a brace, while Scott Smith, Liam Baines, Chris Hughes and Dale Edwards also scored.

There was frustration for 'Church on Saturday as Saturday's home clash against Loughborough University was called off 45 minutes before the start because a section of the pitch was deemed too wet to play on.

Thorpe said: "All the players and my staff were there and fans were just turning up when the referee said a section of the pitch was just too dangerous.

"It was wet and I understand his point but I thought the surface looked the best it had done for a while."

Meanwhile, Thorpe has backed highly-rated hitman Spencer to keep on scoring.

The 19-year-old joined Rushall Olympic on a dual registration in January but returned to Alvechurch looking for regular football.

Spencer, who was also wanted by Stratford and Redditch, has scored 20 goals.

Thorpe said: "Jamie is a natural goal-scorer and someone I would always want to have at the club."
