Holtham lambasts players are Alvechurch crash out of FA Cup
12:00pm Tuesday 20th August 2013 in Local Sport
DEAN Holtham lambasted his Alvechurch players after they were bundled out of the FA Cup by league Tividale in the extra-preliminary round.
Saturday’s 3-0 loss came as a surprise as this match was labelled a clash of the two in-form teams in the Midland Alliance.
However, despite the Black Country outfit seeing Robert Parsons sent off for elbowing striker Jamie Spencer in the head in the 27th minute, they won at a canter.
Tividale had already been leading thanks to Nathan Waite’s third minute effort.
Ryan Winwood caught out keeper Liam Maher with a cross/shot and Alvechurch’s early exit from the cup was confirmed when Waite pounced again.
Holtham had no excuses for a bad day at the office as the Churchmen tasted their first loss of the season.
“There are no excuses, we were b@!#!y awful,” said the manager.
“No one played well, not the goalkeeper, defence, midfield or strikers, everyone had an absolute stinker.
“Tividale were big and strong but we expected that and they deserved to win.
“I think we turned up and thought we didn’t have to work hard like the the previous matches.
“It’s just one of those games, there’s nothing we can do about it and we just have to look ahead to our next matches.”
Alvechurch resume the league on Saturday at home to Dunkirk (3pm ko) and they go to Tipton Town next Wednesday (7.45pm ko).
Holtham though feels that the structure of the club is now in place for Alvechurch to build.
With junior teams now playing from under-10s to 16s level, as well as the reserve and ladies sides, the club is now more than just the first team.
Holtham added: “We’ve tried to put in a structure at the club which means it is more open to everyone.”
