Studley on Barby-cue
6:00am Tuesday 20th August 2013 in Local Sport
STUDLEY picked up their fith winning draw of the season to earn 15 points at Northamptonshire outfit Barby in the Warwickshire League Division One on Saturday.
The Bees had been put into bat by the hosts but made them pay as they made 252-6 in their 50 overs.
Brandon Miller accumulated 94 runs and forged a 100 run partnership with Jawaad Nazir (32), who weathered some rought treatment from the bowlers.
Mark Swanick also smashed 59 runs off 20 balls to help put Studley in charge.
Unfortunately, the rain forced the game off when it had reached a fascinating point.
Studley had reduced Barby to 105-4 in 28 overs. Swanick (2-27) and Miller (1-31) has taken wickets as well as 22-year-old Greg Moore, who dismissed Joel Gleghorn on his debut for the first team.
Will Sinclair (36no) and David Watson (42) had scored the home team’s runs.
Studley, who were relegated from the Birmingham and District League last summer, are solidly seventh in the table with six wins and five winning draws from their 17 matches.
Captain Steve Rose said: “I am not worried about the amount of winning draws. We’ve had a few injury problems with bowlers and the weather has played its part but it means we’ve been consistent.
“Brandon and Jawaad put together and really good partnership and Mark can also hit the ball very far when he’s in the mood.”
Studley will be aiming to build on their four-game unbeaten run with two matches over Bank Holiday weekend.
They take on Lyndworth at home on Saturday and then go to Atherstone on Monday (both 1.30pm start).
