LIBBY Smith continued her preparations for the National Championships with a spirited display at Nottingham Outlaws at the weekend.

The gifted Greelands BMX rider finished second in the 12-year-old boys section, despite several setbacks on Saturday.

The 11-year-old, who attends St Bede’s School, finished first, second and third in three heat races to book her place in the semi-finals.

A crash in the race saw her only just qualify for the final and left her in a difficult position in gate eight.

But the Redditch Premiers rider managed to carve her way through the field and finish runner-up.

Meanwhile, Redditch’s JGS Autos garage have sponsored Smith £100 to help pay for her trip to the World Championships in New Zealand.

She needs to raise £6,000 to make her dream come true.

The garage will also donate £5 to the young star for every customer who states Libby’s name at the garage while having an MOT.
