Kings Norton 17, Pinley 20

KINGS Norton were left to rue the errors which cost them as they were edged out by Pinley in the Midlands Three West (South).

Three mistakes ensured defeat for Norton, despite their strength in the pack pinning down many of their opponent’s breaks.

Chris Carlin’s second-minute penalty flew narrowly wide but the hosts soon opened the scoring.

Carlin broke through to feed Gareth Johnson, who had to work hard and ride three tackles before crossing for the home side’s first score. Carlin kicked the conversion.

But the first of Kings errors allowed to run in an unconverted try.

Both teams narrowly missed penalty attempts before another Pinley try gave them a 10-7 lead.

The visitors then intercepted a long-range pass and scored their third try.

Kings pushed for a leveller but a penalty handed Pinley a healthy 13-point advantage.

Rob McGhee and Ben Boyce were drafted into the Kings side in the second-half.

McGhee pulled a try back before Sam Westwood touched down but Carlin’s long range attempt missed the target.

Kings Norton travel to Cheltenham North on Saturday (2.15pm ko).

The club’s veteran team are looking for Wednesday evening fixtures. Anyone interested should contact fixture secretary Bill Hendon via the knrfc.co.uk
