We gave leaders three goals – Holtham

ALVECHURCH boss Dean Holtham believes his side threw away three points against league leaders Stratford Town this week.

In front of the biggest crowd seen at Lye Meadow for several seasons, Church suffered a 3-1 reverse but Holtham insisted: “We gave them all three of their goals!

“We conceded after just five minutes when one of our players — I won’t name him — didn’t defend the near post and then went round blaming everyone but himself”.

Church hit back to level before half time through Jazz Luckie and Holtham claimed : “At 1-1 we were really comfortable. Then we added to our own downfall by making silly mistakes — it’s something you cannot legislate for — but it’s not the youngsters making the mistakes, it’s coming from the more experienced players.

“I can’t fault the effort but we should have got something out of the game with Stratford.”

With the majority of the team aged between 17 and 19 years old, Holtham has decided to bring in one or two more experienced players.

At the same time, Holtham is eager to get the youngsters more involved with the local community. As part of their involvement with Birmingham City’s Development programme, Holtham is looking to get them coaching at local schools around the Alvechurch area absolutely free of charge.

He added: “We want to get involved Alvechurch, because it was Alvechurch that gave us the opportunity to go there in the first place.”
