Early exit in the vase for Alcester

Alcester 15, Greyhound 29

ALCESTER made an early exit in the Midlands Junior Vase after failing to hit any great heights against Hereford side Greyhound.

Poor tackling led to Greyhound grabbing an early lead with a converted try but Alcester hit back when winger Will Harcourt finished off a well worked try.

Greyhound crossed for two more well taken tries as their bigger back line punched holes in Alcester’s defence.

Turning around 19-5 in arrears, Alcester threatened a recovery when centre Jack Green crossed for a try after more fine play from Harcourt.

However Greyhound always had more structure to their game and Alcester conceded two further tries to go 29-10 down as play deteriorated in the worsening weather conditions.

Alcester raised their game in the final 10 minutes and had a try ruled out for an illegally taken tap penalty before Jack Green dived over for his second try of the game.

This Saturday, Alcester host a proverbial four pointer when they entertain fellow strugglers Keresley at Kings Coughton (3pm kick off).
