Awesome Ashford wins the Wobbler

HUNDREDS of runners descended on Rubery to test their mettle in the 30th Waseley Wobbler eight-mile run, which was organised by Bromsgrove and Redditch AC.

The event, formerly known as the Worcestershire eight-mile, had 120 competitors take on the scenic but challenging Waseley hills course.

With perfect conditions, those taking part were able to set strong times.

It was won by Birmingham Running and Triathlon Club’s (BRAT) Chris Ashford in 55 minutes 24 seconds, who was less than two minutes off the course record.

Wolverhampton and Bilston AC’s Daniel Brazier was second in 56.38, followed in third by BRAT’s Robin Miles (59.38).

The first woman home was Emma Tod who finished in 69.47. Second was Bournville Harriers’ Sarah Rock (70.44), followed by Melanie Hepkie (72.44).

Meanwhile, the club’s under-15s athletes Candy Lockett and Oliver Kemp and under-23 women’s member Sam Lloyd travelled to Wrexham to take part in their final throwing competition of the season before winter training sets in.
