REDDITCH boss Simon Redhead drafted in two new signings for the trip to north Devon — but their arrival could not spark a revival in fortunes.

Midfield pair Niall Wellington and Jordan Fitzpatrick came into the side for their debuts although the latter is no stranger to Reds fans used to his battling displays in the middle of the park.

Wellington, released from the West Bromwich Albion academy set-up in the summer, showed some exciting touches on the left as the visitors tried to break through a solid Bideford defence.

Redditch had the pick of the chances in a goalless first-half with Fitzpatrick blazing wide with striker Mark Danks doing similar.

After the interval, Dominic Rivans gave the home side the lead when he scored from close range.

Bideford struck again on the hour when Redditch keeper Niall Cooper was unable to keep out a shot from Matt Bye.

The final 10 minutes proved a frenzy of goal activity. Connor Deards poked home from close range to reduce arrears after the home keeper failed to hold Fitzpatrick’s shot.

But with a chance of a fightback on the cards, Matt Andrew broke through the United defence to restore his side’s two-goal cushion with three minutes to go.

The Reds did get what proved a consolation in injury-time when Danks followed up a good run and shot by Deards to score.

Redditch: Cooper 6, Stringfellow 7, QUAYNOR 8, Flanagan 6, Charlton 7, Bridgwater 6, Price 6 (Cresswell 67, 6), Richards 7, Fitzpatrick 7, Danks 6, Wellington 7 (Deards 62, 6)
