Hooper at the double

Old Wheatleyans 13, Woodrush 22

WOODRUSH almost let Old Wheatleyans off the hook in a match they should have wrapped up early in the second-half.

Centre Andy McGrann forced his way over in the corner for a try and winger Lucas Hooper snapped up a second touchdown underneath the posts for Steve Smart to convert.

Hooper then grabbed the third early in the second-half when he gathered a poor clearance kick to put Woodrush 17-3 ahead.

However, the visitors then found themselves in disarray as Wheats scored two unconverted tries.

But McGrann powered through several tackles to score.

On Saturday, Woodrush entertain Shrewsbury in the opening round of the RFU Intermediate Vase.
