Redhead lays down the law

SIMON Redhead has ordered his Redditch United players to become more streetwise in the wake of their 3-2 defeat at Bideford Town.

Redhead insisted: “We shot ourselves in the foot by making too many schoolboy errors and then allowing Bideford back into the game.

“More experienced players wouldn’t have allowed Bideford to get into the positions which they did.

“Both their second and third goals were the results of breakaways which shouldn’t have happened. We have to change the culture and we have to become more streetwise.”

Redhead rang the changes this week as he brought in striker Jordan Fitzpatrick and Andre Francis on loan from Blue Square Bet North club Solihull Moors.

He also added highly-rated Stourbridge striker Lyndon Dovey to his ranks together with Mark Hands from Chasetown, who has also had a couple of recent outings for Studley.

Redhead also revealed he had several seven day notices flying out and confirmed: “We need to add another forward and I’d like another central defender as well”.

Redhead confirmed he tried to lure former defender Jamie Grimes back to Reds this week.

Grimes left the Valley Stadium for Southern League champions Brackley in the summer, but has been unable to break into the side at the higher level.

However, he returned to haunt Reds by scoring against them while out on loan with Bedford Town two weeks ago.

Redhead claimed: “I tried to get Jamie, but Brackley wouldn’t agree to it.”

In the meantime Grimes’ former defensive partner Alec Hickman is no closer to recovering from a broken toe.

A resigned Redhead added: “Unfortunately, there appears to be complications and there could be some ligament damage as well.”
