Redditch United 1, Leamington 1

A GOAL deep in injury time denied Redditch a vital victory over the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier neighbours Leamington.

It looked as though Simon Redhead’s side had done enough after Will Richards had handed them an interval lead.

But former Reds defender Liam Daly snatched an equaliser at the death to salvage a point for the Brakes.

Daly had gone close early on when his 18th minute header beat Redditch keeper Niall Cooper but on loan defender Andre Francis cleared off the line.

United’s response, five minutes later, was a Mark Danks effort that flew just the wrong side of the post.

A scintillating first period then had Cooper pulling off a brilliant save to palm a Tom Berwick shot onto the crossbar.

But with 27 minutes on the clock, it was the Reds who took the lead. Liam McDonald whipped a corner towards the near post and Richards was on hand to turn the ball home.

There were fewer chances after the break although Redditch could have doubled their lead six minutes from time when substitute Jack Cresswell exchanged passes with Connor Deards only for his shot to be well saved by Brakes keeper Kevin Sawyer.

The equaliser came with the last move of the game – a free-kick which saw Daly nip in front of the United keeper to head home.

Reds: Cooper 7, Francis 7, Quaynor 7, Charlton 7, Flanagan 7, Richards 7, FITZPATRICK 8, Hands 7, Danks 6 (Price 86), Deards 6, McDonald 7 (Cresswell 75). Subs (not used): Stringfellow, Bridgwater, Catlow.
