Kingfishers staying up

REDDITCH’S place in the Worcestershire League Division One was ensured, despite defeat to leaders Worcester Nomads on Saturday.

The Kingfishers went down by 191 runs to the champions-elect but with bottom two sides Colwall and Coombs Wood losing to Pershore and Astwood Bank respectively, they will spend another year in the league’s top flight.

Skipper Luke Davis took a strong side to league leaders Nomads and having won the toss and electing to field, Redditch reduced the home side to 69-3.

But Alex Milton (72) and William O' Driscoll (122no) added 110 for the fourth wicket.

O’Driscoll continued to dominate and the talented all-rounder along with John Ingils (63no) and took the home side’s total up to 306-4 off their 50 overs. Aidan Andrews was the pick of the bowling 3-91.

Redditch lost their openers in quick succession and despite a 60-run partnership for the third wicket between skipper Davis (18) and Southwick (40), the middle order collapsed to leave them 115 all out.

Bromyard are the visitors to Bromsgrove Road on Saturday (12.30pm start) in the final fixture of a frustrating season.
