Double swoop boosts Reds

REDDITCH UNITED boss Gary Whild has re-signed Liam Murray and Michael McGrath to boost his squad.

McGrath has been playing in the League of Ireland and Murray has been released by Kings Lynn after their financial problems.

Murray made an immediate impact on Saturday, netting an equaliser in the 2-2 draw at home to Blyth Spartans (see full match report in Redditch United section).

He left Redditch in August this year to follow former assistant boss Carl Heggs to Norfolk.

McGrath, now 24, started with Redditch as a trainee and then went to Kidderminster before being released and playing for Galway United and Sligo Rovers.

Whild said: “Michael is a good player with a lot of ability who has had two or three seasons at Kidderminster and made first team appearances.

“He did well for us when he came on against Blyth and has a lot to offer us.

“We know all about Liam and he will be a welcome boost to the squad.”

Whild felt Redditch had chances to win against Blyth but was pleased with Murray’s effort to secure a point.

He also had praise for Matty Blair who has already impressed since making his debut in the 2-1 win at Solihull last Tuesday.

Whild said: “His pace is a terrific asset and he is a similar player to James Dance, who he was brought in for as a direct replacement.

Redditch are away to Farsley Celtic on Saturday (3pm).

Jack Byrne is suspended, but Liam Francis returns from suspension
