Bank march on in cup

ASTWOOD Bank suffered a losing draw at home to Colwall on Saturday but the Sunday side marched on in a national competition.

With the visitors choosing to bat, opening bowler Tom Harris was taken to hospital after only four overs and diagnosed with whiplash after a head on collision with a bench.

This meant David Sewell took over with the new ball and provided the Bank with their first wicket.

Spinners Jonny Summers (3-56) and Andjrei Jagielski (5-76) were again the pick of the bowlers and restricted Colwall to 230-9.

Bank's innings was kept on track by Stefan Jagielski (60) and Tom Pedley (52) as they put on 78 for the fourth wicket.

When Jagielski fell, Bank were left requiring 80 from the final 12 overs but on this occasion it proved too many.

A brave knock from Tom Harris (17 not out) helped to secure the final bonus point and a losing draw, with the score at 203-9, ensuring a haul of ten points.

This result meant the Bank retain third place and travel to basement boys Coombs Wood on Saturday.

Sunday saw Warwickshire based side Fillongley visit Sambourne Lane for a last 32 fixture of the National Village Knockout.

Sunday skipper Dan Sealey also lost the toss and once again Bank were forced to endure a sweaty afternoon in the field.

This was made more pleasurable when Dennis Freeman(3-25) and paceman Tom Harris (3-31) reduced Fillongley to a pultry 62-5 from 21 overs.

The Warwickshire side were determined not to let down their travelling supporters and the tail managed to support Blackmore (91) long enough to post a total of 164 all out.

Captain Dan Sealey (33) got Bank off to a good start in reply and once Alex Robinson (50 not out) and Stefan Jagielski(31) had got into their stride the result always looked a formality.

The next round will be at home against the best village side from either Cheshire or Northamptonshire on Sunday July 12.
