‘Chippies’ turn screw on seconds and easily romp home

Alcester 2nd XV 0 Chipping Norton 67

ALCESTER elected to rest their first XV at the weekend and the seconds took centre stage against what was supposed to be Chippies' 2nd XV.

Unfortunately the visitors did somewhat of a job' on their hosts, as the side that actually took the field featured several 1st XV regulars that ply their trade a level above Alcester's own 1st XV.

Not surprisingly the game proved to be a complete mismatch, and although the home side battled, their error count was far too high to prove competitive against such strong opposition.

The visitors led 37-0 at the break, after a first half that was held up for a long delay after an injury to home second row, Chris Pierson, following a collapsed scrum.

The relieved home side were later to learn that Pierson's injuries were whiplash and two broken ribs, when at one stage it did look to be far more serious than that.

As Pierson was unable to be moved whilst the ambulance was awaited, the game moved pitches, although Alcester's fortunes proved little better in the new surroundings.

In the end the visitors ran out clear winners in the damp and miserable conditions.

Few Alcester players stood out in this comprehensive beating, although veteran skipper Pete Goddard led the rear guard effort well with some excellent tackles, helped by his fellow back row colleague Steve Green.
