WORCESTER Warriors are unlikely to issue a further update on the progress of injured back rower Cornell du Preez for another three weeks.

Du Preez is being treated at Heartlands Hospital and Birmingham Chest Clinic after fracturing his Adam’s apple and damaging his voice box.

Last week the 27-year-old posted a message on Instagram to thank well-wishers and state that he would be unable to speak for “four weeks or so”.

Warriors also put out a statement to say du Preez would remain in hospital for “the next four weeks”.

On Wednesday director of rugby Alan Solomons said he understood du Preez was “much perkier” having exchanged text messages.

But Warriors’ chief does not reckon he would be in a position to release more information about the Scotland international until next month.

“Cornell is still in hospital,” Solomons said.

“When we last spoke we said it would be four weeks so it will be another three weeks.

“We are just going to have to wait and see. He is definitely perkier from what I am gathering.

“He has certainly been texting people, he has text me which is a really positive sign and I think he is much perkier.

“As soon as our doctor gives me an update then we can put it out there.

“Although there will be progress I think at the end of that four-week period will be the appropriate time (to issue an update).”

Du Preez who joined from Edinburgh this summer sustained the injury in Warriors’ 21-20 defeat to Wasps at Sixways on Saturday, September 1.
