WORCESTERSHIRE hope to extend the loan of Nottinghamshire paceman Luke Wood for the rest of the Vitality Blast.

Wood has been a regular in the Rapids side who on Friday sealed top spot in the North Group with victory over Birmingham Bears at Edgbaston.

The 23-year-old has played 11 group matches but could not feature in the two games with his parent club.

Rapids head coach Kevin Sharp is optimistic Wood can be part of the squad for Saturday’s home quarter-final with Gloucestershire (3pm) plus potentially finals day.

Sharp said: “We are negotiating with Nottinghamshire at the moment and hopefully Luke will be able to extend his loan so he can play in the T20 competition.

“There doesn’t seem to be much of an issue in terms of that happening although obviously he would not be able to play against Nottinghamshire should that scenario arise.”
