STUDLEY followed up their 3-3 draw with local rivals Redditch United by losing out 2-1 against a strong Lye Town side.

Goals from Dan Carter and Joe Adams put Studley 2-0 ahead at half time against Redditch before boss John Edwards rang the changes, Robbie Agar supplying a third in the second half.

Carter was also on target against Lye after coming on as a second half substitute.

Studley were due to face GNP Sports this week at Warwick University from which point Edwards plans to start pruning his squad.

He revealed: "We had close on 50 players turning up to pre-season training.

"Some players only appeared once before it was decided we part company but we've had between 20 to 30 players for most sessions.

"But I intend to weed out a few more players ahead of this Saturday's game at home to West Midland League runners-up Tividale."

Studley also have home games coming up against Northfield Town on July 28 and then against Paul Smith's Highgate United on July 31 prior to the start of the season.

Edwards added: "I've been really pleased with the way things have gone. The players have trained well under coaches Danny Janes and Justin Fowkes.

"I've also had some youngsters who have just come out of youth team football on trial with us, with varying degrees of success and I'd like to keep some of them on board as well."
