ALCESTER Rugby Club have named Chris Johnson as their new head coach.

Johnson takes charge as Alcester return for pre-season training ahead of league action in early September.

Keith Beech stood down at the end of last season after a successful spell and has now been replaced by Johnston, who already has extensive coaching experience.

Training takes place at Kings Coughton from 7pm on Tuesday and Thursday and new players of all ages (17 and upwards) and experiences are being invited to attend.

As well as a new coach, Alcester will also have a new club captain, Phil Birks, who previously captained the side eight years ago. He will be assisted by another former skipper Jack Green.

Sam Fell will continue as 2nd XV captain for another season.

Off the field and at the club’s AGM in June, six of last year’s committee were re-elected, headed by Andy Flynn who begins a second season as club chairman.

Club stalwart Peter Lewis Jones, who has held several committee positions in the past, was invited to become president of the club. He replaces Andy Miller who had a very active three seasons in the role and will continue to be a regular face at the club.

After Alcester’s Rugby Force day, the club has been tidied, fixed and smartened ready for summer activities and functions while being optimistic towards the new season.
