ALCESTER are going great guns in the Wildmoor Spa Tennis League this season.
While Stratford appear to have the Premier title wrapped up, Alcester are still challenging strongly for the minor placings.
Alcester's A side pulled themselves to within a point of second placed Chipping Campden following an emphatic 4-0 win over already relegated Redditch.
Alcester's Alex Woodbridge and Charlie Watson beat Redditch pair James Macdonald and Will Henson 6-0, 6-2 then then despatched Ben Portman and Darren Shennan 6-1, 6-0.
Fellow Alcester partnership of Stuart Beach and James Moreley-Cotterell then accounted for Portman and Shennan 6-2, 6-2 before disposing of Macdonald and Henson 6-1, 6-4.
Alcester's second string have enjoyed a splendid second half of the season and climbed to fourth spot, directly behind their A team following a 3-1 success at Ardencote Manor.
Sam Thruston and Pete Watson beat Ardencote's Matt Smith and John Brain 6-4, 7-6 and then got the better of Ben Summers and Christian Hardy 7-5, 6-1.
Alcester's Tim Kenneally and Emma Hubbard lost to Summers and Hardy 3-6, 4-6 but recovered to defeat Smith and Brain 4-6, 6-4 and then 1-0 on a tie-break finish.
Evesham clinched their promotion to the top flight with a 4-0 win over Studley A in Division One while Alcester C crashed 4-0 to Stratford B but should have enough points in the bank to avoid relegation.
