CENTRE Ben Te’o has praised Worcester Warriors’ go-getting boss Alan Solomons for delivering on his promises in the transfer market.

Warriors’ squad for the 2018-19 campaign is continuing to take shape with Solomons making 10 summer signings.

And Te’o has been pleased with his approach to recruitment since his appointed as director of rugby in late December.

“I have been very impressed with how Alan has taken over here,” Te’o said.

“It’s been very positive.

“He has stepped into a role where we needed leadership and has definitely shown it.

“He said he would sign some guys and he went out there, got moving and signed them.”

Ashley Beck, Callum Black, Cornell de Preez, Michael Fatialofa, Michael Heaney, Jono Lance, Isaac Miller, Scott Van Breda, Francois Venter and Duncan Weir have agreed to make the move to Warriors.

“He has picked up some great signings from overseas and from around Europe,” Te’o continued.

“He knows what he is looking for and he is quite confident with what he has brought in.

“He has had a chat with me about next year and he is very positive about it.

“I think it was a great appointment to get someone with such experience and knowledge.”

Te’o said he was delighted to see Warriors strengthen the fly-half department for next season with the re-signing of Lance and capture of Weir.

Lance made eight appearances in a three-month spell at Worcester before returning to Australia at the turn of the year.

But Warriors have snapped up the 27-year-old on a two-year deal from Queensland Reds. They have also signed Scotland international Weir, 26, on a one-year contract from Edinburgh.

“That’s huge,” Te’o said.

“They are both experienced players who have played in some big games.

“It’s hard to find good fly-halves around these days as there are not a lot of really good ones and we have got a couple coming on board.

“We have obviously still got (Jamie) Shillcock and there are a few young guys coming through.

“We will be in a great position there because if we get an injury we can fit another great guy in.”

But Te’o said it was important Solomons who signed a three-year contract remained in the hot seat as Warriors look to build for the future.

“I think we have been talking about it (kicking on) for a while now,” said Te’o who joined Worcester in 2016.

“But the issue was always the chopping and changing.

“We always brought some good players in but I think maybe from a coaching or admin point of view there was always people coming in and people leaving.

“But now Alan has come in, he has taken control, is running the ship and is doing a great job.

“As long as they keep him in place I think there is no reason why we can’t keep going forward and climbing the ladder.”
