ALCESTER have clinched fifth spot in Midlands 3 West South this season following a 20-15 success over Upton-on-Severn.

Upton assumed early control and were soon rewarded with a try in the first five minutes.

Max Biltcliffe cut the deficit with a penalty for Alcester, who were missing far too many of their tackles.

Upton took advantage and struck for a second try which they converted to lead 12-3

Alcester finally managed to get some flow into their game which resulted with Ben Hope bagging an unconverted try, cutting the gap to four points at half time.

Hope continued to lead from the front after the break and snapped up his second try of the game to put Alcester in front.

Further Alcester pressure resulted with Jamie Harland being hauled down just short of the line, but a successful offload followed which enabled Matt Ashby to complete the score before adding the conversion as well.

Upton replied with a penalty but Alcester held out for the victory.

Alcester's Second XV could only muster 12 players and suffered a 48-14 defeat to AEI Rugby where Alex Chiles and Elliot Evans provided the Alcester tries.

Alcester embark on their final game of the season this Saturday when they travel to Woodrush while the seconds entertain Bedworth's Second XV.
