FLANKER Sam Lewis is a doubt for Worcester Warriors’ visit to Sale Sharks on Saturday after suffering an injury setback in training (3pm).

The Welshman looked set to win the race to be fit for the Aviva Premiership clash as he battled to overcome a hamstring problem.

But Lewis, who was ruled out of Worcester’s 34-5 defeat to Leicester Tigers earlier this month, has rolled his ankle leaving director of rugby Alan Solomons with a further headache ahead of this weekend’s fixture.

Solomons said he would make a decision tomorrow on whether the 27-year-old would be able to tackle Sale at the AJ Bell Stadium.

If Lewis misses out, Alafoti Fa’osiliva could retain the number seven jersey while back rower David Denton is expected to be back in contention after returning from Scotland duty.

“Sam’s hamstring is much better but he has rolled his ankle,” Solomons said.

“These things happen and we will just have to look at it and see how he fronts up tomorrow.”

Solomons said he would also make a call on scrum-half Francois Hougaard before penning his team to take on Sharks.

The 29-year-old hobbled off with an ankle issue in Warriors’ 22-9 loss at relegation rivals London Irish last month.

“We are going to have to wait and see.” Solomons said.

“We will be announcing our team tomorrow as usual so we will see whether he is ready to go.”

But when asked whether Hougaard was training with the squad, Solomons replied: “No, he has been rehabbing so we will see how things track and make a decision tomorrow.”
