REDDITCH United secured a much-needed away success at basement boys Gosport Borough.

The Reds finally had joy on their travels thanks to a comprehensive 5-2 victory last Saturday.

A brace from Stuart Fleetwood and goals from Jimmy Mutton, Lewis Wright and Jordan Mills handed them their first away win in 12 league games.

It also saw United bounce back from the previous weekend's loss at Bishops Stortford.

Boss Tim Harris was happy to taste a win on the road, saying: "It was vital we won and I think the performance was just as good as the game against Bishops Stortford except this time we took our chances.

"Gosport have invested heavily in recent weeks and have brought in some good, experienced players to try and keep them in this league.

"It makes the win even better and I think we played some really good football as well.

"We are on the right track now but we still need more quality and experience in the squad to take us forwards."

The manager has made three approaches ahead of this Thursday's transfer deadline and hopes at least one will link up ahead of this Saturday's clash with second-placed King's Lynn Town.

"We've made three approaches and hopefully one will come in. I'd be delighted with any more than that," added the boss.

"I think we could do with some extra bodies in midfield but it's important to point out that Lewis Wright has been outstanding and one of the better players since I came in.

"He's a flexible player and has slotted in at right back, centre back and midfield. Players like him are a big part of what we are trying to do."

Harris is preparing for a tough test at the Trico this Saturday (3pm kick-off).

"King's Lynn will be a really difficult for us and will put our home form to the test," he said.

"If Hereford don't win the league then King's Lynn will."

Josh Ezewele and Jed Davies have now returned to their parent clubs, AFC Fylde and Tamworth respectively.

However, Harris has bolstered his options with the arrival of attacker Montel Gibson.

Formerly of Notts County, Gibson scored 15 goals in 28 starts for Ilkeston Town before leaving the club earlier this week. The Reds have moved quickly to secure his signature, and Harris is hoping the 20-year-old can carry on his goalscoring form between now and the end of the season.

Defender Louis Ezewele is nearing a return but this Saturday may come too soon.
