BROMSGROVE Cricket Club believe they have filled the void left by Alexie Kervezee's switch to rivals Halesowen by snapping up the services of Warwickshire allrounder Aaron Thomason.

The St Godswald Park side have also added Knowle and Dorridge left hand batsman Alec Baker to boost the middle order.

England under-19 player Thomason has already made a big impression in Warwickshire's one day side and has been given permission to switch clubs after his previous side Walmley were relegated to Birmingham League Division Two.

Thomason has been tempted to Bromsgrove by skipper Mark Evenson who coached him as a youngster.

Evenson said: "I've kept in touch with Aaron and followed his cricketing journey. He will strengthen our batting and bowling considerably.

"He's a great death bowler and will fill the void left by Alexie.

"Obviously it was a blow losing Alexie after 11 seasons at Bromsgrove. But following his release from Worcestershire, he felt he was at a bit of a crossroads in his career.

"It will be a big hole to fill, but we feel we have the right man in Aaron".

"Alec Baker has been out in the cold a bit at Knowle and Dorridge owing to the form of opening batmen George Worker and Alex Phillips.

"He was offered the captaincy of their Second XI, but at 25 years old, he still feels he has a great deal to offer.

"He's likely to bat in the middle order along with Aaron as we already have an established opening partnership with Jayden Levitt, who hit over 1,000 runs last season, together with Ash Newfield.

"Ryan Pedley looks poised to come in at No.3 following his progression from last season, with Aaron and Alex at four and five.

"We also have Jack Taylor coming in at six who also made giant strides last term that included playing Minor Counties cricket for Herefordshire.

"It's a strong batting line-up and we will need to get off to a good start. This is not a season to get relegated with possible reorganisation of the Birmingham League in the pipeline.

"We finished fifth in Division One last season and we will look to build upon that."
