RAMPANT Redditch have climbed up to second spot in the Worcester County League after pulling off a four wicket win over Hagley.

Redditch chased down Hagley's imposing target of 237 for six to such an extent that they still had five overs to spare.

Alex Millard with 78 and skipper Michael Stead who added 70 had put Hagley in an extremely strong position.

But accurate bowling by seamers Waqas Ali, who took two for 40 and Greg Chinn with two for 32, made sure runs were kept to a minimum as Hagley tried to accelerate in the latter stages of their innings.

Redditch skipper Russ Southwick said: "The pitch played really well and I would have probably batted first myself given the chance, so I was always confident we could win the chase."

Southwick led from the front with a well compiled 90 while wicketkeeper Brandon Weal kept him company with 49.

Rizwan Chaudhry then struck a quickfire 37 not out as Redditch reached a winning 241 for six off 44.5 overs.

Redditch now find themselves just 16 points adrift of leaders Worcester CC but cannot afford any complacency as they travel to third in the table Cookley this Saturday.

Southwick doesn't expect to make any changes and added: "We're getting a settled side at the moment and that is beginning to rub off.

"This was our fourth straight win which has helped improve confidence throughout the side."
