REDDITCH Entaco skipper Russ Southwick believes he has possibly the best bowling attack in the Worcester County League after his side held their nerve to beat top of the table Bewdley by just four runs.

Southwick insisted: "It was one hell of a game. It didn't help that seven of my players were observing 'Ramadan' which meant they couldn't eat or drink during the daytime.

"That was partly why I chose to bat first, because I didn't want my players out in the field too long."

Redditch eventually posted a target of 206 all out off 48 overs, Rizwan Chaudhry making top score of 68 while Naseek Hussain, who was promoted from the second XI for his debut added a further 40.

Southwick stated: "I thought that total was 60 to 70 runs short, but we bowled and fielded superbly.

"Greg Chinn, who took four for 38, also claimed a couple of run-outs with two pieces of quality fielding when the pressure was on."

Bewdley had looked well placed for victory at one stage having reached 190 for six but couldn't get over the line as they were bowled out for 202.

Southwick said: "We've got one of the best bowling attacks in the league, if not the best.

"We've got Noman Chaundhry, Waqas Ali, Ghoulam Moyhuddin and Greg Chinn. Anyone of them could open the bowling and would walk into any other side in the league.

"They kept the pressure on Bewdley and forced them into unnecessary errors."

Despite this victory, Redditch still remain fifth in the table but Southwick said: "What this result has done is block up the top of the table. Anyone of five teams are still in with a shout of winning the league and we're one of them."

Redditch host Hereford side Burghill, Tillington and Weobley at Bromsgrove Road this Saturday and Southwick expects to have a few selection posers with several players in the second XI pushing for a starting place as well.
